about

The story of this album is long and tortuous.Having admired Victorias work for some time I approached her in 2012 with a view to working together on an album. We both decided that this would be a lovely idea and set about writing material for the album. Initial recording began and Emma Noble was recruited as a third vocalist. Victoria recorded two of her songs with her on acoustic guitar and vocals, (plus, in 2024 two demo tracks 7&14), I added my instrumental contributions to her songs and recorded backing tracks with guide vocals for my own. Emma added her vocals but technical issues saw them all lost .
Meanwhile, the personal circumstances of both myself and Victoria changed and the album was delayed and delayed until the Logic files were stored away and the album abandoned. Bits of it began to seep out. Cathartic appeared on my Rare Thing CD of unreleased material. Screaming and Hard Love were rerecorded for the Electric Carpentry album, which also included There Is No God (Retake) directly from the original.
And so, the album slumbered on. Then in 2021, as the pandemic receded, Victoria and I met up in the real world again after a long gap, and, prior to her visit, I burned a CD of the album for her. I was quite surprised to find that, despite being unmixed and having rough guide vocals there was a good album in there. And so, after eight years I set about mixing the album and adding new vocal tracks.with a view to a final release. I also wrote a handful of new tracks (1,5,16 & 18) to replace those that had been rerecorded.
Victoria had given up music and begun painting, she did the cover art, but gave her blessing to its completion. Thus began a search for the right female voice to finish the album. In 2024 I asked Emma to once again offer her vocal talents to finally finish the album, and that’s what you hear here.
For me this remains a hugely important album. It gave me my first taste of moving away from folk based music to try my hand at synth pop, show tunes and rock
